“Find a way.” Those are the words endurance swimmer, Diana Nyad says got her through the treacherous 110 mile swim from Cuba to Florida. The journey took 52 hours and 54 minutes and made her the first person to ever swim across the Florida Strait without a shark cage.

I am always in awe of people like Nyad – someone so incredibly strong physically. But even more impressive, her mental strength. Nyad kept going despite hours of rough winds, constant vomiting, and painfully swollen lips and tongue from the sun and seawater.

It was Nyad’s fifth attempt. Her dream for 35 years. Making that dream come true was all in her head.

Nyad says, “So my thought was, ‘everything you come up against say — and this is why people are relating to my story — all of us suffer heartache. All of us suffer difficulties in our lives. And if you say to yourself ‘find a way,’ you’ll make it through.”

Like Nyad, let’s all make those three powerful words our mantra.

Find a way.
